Elizabeth II has been queen since 1952, when her father King George VI died. Her mother, Princess Elizabeth, became queen after her father’s death. The couple had five children, four sons and a daughter.
In 1953, she married Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who would become king consort upon his wife’s accession to the throne. They were together until he passed away in 2016.
