The Etulo people are an ethnic group of beautiful people who primarily inhabit parts of Buruku and Katsina-Ala local government areas of Benue State, Nigeria.
INTRODUCTION
The Etulo is an ethnic group in the middle Benue valley.They live on both banks of river Katsina-Ala and also the town some kilometers east of makurdi.
.The name Etulo means;the people/the language they speakand the land they inhabit. The Etulo traditional system like many other ethnic groupscannot be ade0uately written into one volume.1n this basis/it isimportant to point out brief the Etulo traditional religion.
For the purpose of this study/we are going to examine it in a surfcial manner. It was difficult to and a real christian or muslim among the Etulo people then because solely worshipped their traditional gods.
The Etulo people call the almighty 9od(mgasho+ they haveno faith in him but they worshipped other smaller god whom theybelieved were created by Ngbasho.They believed that after Ngbasho created the earth, he also created a god and a god essatta and onambu respectively which became husband andwife then withdrew himself from earth and resided somewherehigh up in the sky.
They speak Etulo language, which belongs to the Niger-Congo language family. There is limited information available about the history and origins of the Etulo people, but they are considered to be a minority ethnic group in Benue State.
According to oral tradition, they migrated to their present location from the Adun community in the Kwande local government area.
The Etulo people are predominantly fishermen, farmers and hunters. They practice subsistence agriculture, cultivating yam, maize, cassava, and other crops, and also engage in hunting and fishing.
The traditional religion of the Etulo people is centered on ancestor worship and beliefs in various spirits. In recent times, many Etulo people have embraced Christianity and Islam.
The Etulo people have faced various socio-economic challenges, including poverty, lack of basic infrastructure, and marginalization in political representation.
Nonetheless, they have maintained their distinctive culture and identity through traditional festivals, music, and dance.
